Questions people ask before they call

Most questions are about who does the treatment, what it costs, how to get ready and when pests show up around Hawkins. The short version: a licensed local partner does the work, you can get the license number by phone, prices are approved first, and rain decides most pest timing in Wood County.

Topic 1

The partner and licensing

Who actually performs the service, and how do I get the license number?

An independent, licensed local pest control partner, usually the nearest one available, performs every inspection and treatment. Ask for that partner's TDA license number whenever you're on the phone with Hawkins Pest Control, or ask the technician when they call to schedule. The number isn't posted online, for the partner's privacy.

Why isn't a license number printed on this website?

The license belongs to the independent partner doing the work, not to the website, and leaving it off these pages protects that partner's privacy. Nothing is withheld from customers: ask on the phone or when the partner calls, and you'll get the number to check with the Texas Department of Agriculture.

What should I check before any pest company treats my home?

Get the TDA license number, a clear price and a plain explanation of the product and where it goes. Ask which precautions apply to kids and pets, and make sure you'll get a written report. Any Texas company, Hawkins Pest Control included, should answer all of that without fuss.

Topic 2

Prices and plans

Why does acreage cost more to treat than a town lot?

More ground takes more product and more time. A typical town lot fits the standard ranges, but fire ant work on larger property is quoted per acre, and barns, shops and crawlspaces add areas to treat. The technician walks the property, then gives a price you approve before anything goes down.

Is a quarterly plan worth it in East Texas?

Often, if ants, spiders, roaches or scorpions come back every few months. A plan starts with an initial service (estimated $125–$225), then quarterly visits run about $85–$140 each. A one-time treatment ($150–$275) suits a single problem. The technician can say which makes sense after seeing the place.

Is there an extra charge for nights and weekends?

Sometimes. An after-hours or emergency visit can add an estimated $50–$150, and you're told before it's booked. Many night calls are simply scheduled for the next day at regular rates, so ask which option fits when you call. See the full price list for other estimates.

Topic 3

Visits, prep and precautions

What precautions apply for kids, pets and livestock?

Products are applied according to their labels, and the technician explains the precautions before leaving, such as how long to keep dogs off a treated lawn or children out of a treated room. Mention livestock, chickens, fish ponds or beehives so treatments stay well clear of them.

Should I spray a wasp nest or fire ant mound myself first?

It's better not to. Spraying a wasp nest by hand can set off the whole colony, and dousing a fire ant mound often just moves it a few feet. Store products can also hide where activity was. Point out the nest or mounds and leave them for the technician.

What happens during a termite inspection on a pier-and-beam house?

The technician checks the crawlspace, piers, sill plates, skirting and plumbing runs for mud tubes, damaged wood and moisture, then looks at porches, steps and any wood touching soil. Findings come in writing, with a price if treatment is needed. The pier-and-beam termite guide goes deeper.

Topic 4

Pests and seasons around Hawkins

When do termites swarm around Hawkins?

Eastern subterranean termites usually swarm on warm days from late February through May, often a day or two after rain. Swarmers indoors near a window or light mean a colony is close, possibly in a wall or under the floor. Save a few in a sealed bag and call for an inspection.

Are ticks a year-round problem on East Texas acreage?

Peak tick season runs spring through early summer, but lone star and American dog ticks can turn up in any warm spell, even in winter. Brushy woods edges and tall grass hold the most. The acreage tick guide covers clearing, pets and treatment timing.

Do Formosan termites live in Wood County?

They haven't been reported in Wood County. Texas A&M AgriLife confirms Formosan termites in neighboring Smith and Gregg counties, so they're worth knowing about, but the termite usually found around Hawkins is the eastern subterranean termite. An inspection identifies which one you have.
